The Exit

The Exit

Julia is anorexic and self-absorbed. Angelique is frightened to tell the truth. Jennifer's over-confidence is hiding a terrifying secret…Is Harry their only hope? Did they find a way to move forward and survive or is there really only one way out?

MTV meets Girl Interrupted in this teen angst filled production (…) This exploration of the forces behind teen suicide holds much relevancy in today's society and certainly forces one to leave with something to think about.

Remarkable performances by the young cast (Possibly the best I've seen all festival) certainly managed to keep me engaged and the movement based vignettes were visually intriguing and gave the production an almost music video-like edge. If you get the chance to see it, there's a good chance you'll be able to catch the stars of tomorrow today.

The Exit is a ground-breaking piece of drama, which deals with the emotions and circumstances surrounding teenage suicide with sensitivity and daring. In this bold and uncompromising drama, the audience is drawn into the lives of four young people who found themselves in a psychiatric ward after attempting to take their own lives.

  • Research and Development: When developing the script, we created a partnership with Papyrus. Papyrus is a voluntary UK organization committed to the prevention of young suicide and the promotion of mental health and emotional wellbeing. We shared stories with individuals and the Community in a respectful process.

  • Education and outreach: As well as being promoted to the General public, the stage play was attended by young people approached through schools, youth centres, connexions, voluntary organizations, etc. The young people were also offered workshops and discussions as a follow up.
  • Facts: In the UK, suicide is now the most common cause of death for young people between the ages of 15-34. Each year in the UK almost 2000 young people between 15 and 34 take their own lives. Experts agree that many suicides are preventable. The myths about teenage suicide remain in today's society.
